Two teenage boys were arrested last night after a cross-border chase ended in a crash involving a police vehicle. North Yorkshire Police was notified by Cleveland Police colleagues on Tuesday afternoon that a car suspected to have been stolen in a robbery was heading their way.

North Yorkshire officers tracked the vehicle to the Newton-under-Roseberry area but the vehicle failed to stop. The chase ended when the car crashed on Ladgate Lane near the junction with Marton Road in Middlesbrough.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said the teenage suspects had tried to squeeze their car between a crossing and a vehicle driven by a member of the public. It went on to hit a North Yorkshire Police car that was travelling in the opposite direction.
