As southeast Louisiana drivers awoke to more heavy fog Wednesday morning, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Police Department deployed rolling convoys on the southbound bridge to control speeds.

The convoy deployment was announced at around 5:25 a.m. on X.

Traffic on the northbound bridge was reduced to only the right lane at 7:20 a.m. and the speed limit was changed to 35 mph, according to the Causeway Police Department and the Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission.

Causeway Police may determine various speed limits to coincide with the current visibility on the bridge. No lane changes are allowed in the convoy.

Causeway officials generally deploy convoys or other restrictions after visibility reaches 500 feet or less.
