A student doctor was killed after being hit by a car travelling at almost three times the speed limit during a journey from Edinburgh to England, a court has heard.

Ashton Kitchen-White, 19, died at the scene after being struck by the Ford Focus ST in Middleton, Leeds, West Yorks , while he walked on a pedestrian crossing on May 16. His family previously told how at the time of his death he was about to begin studying to become a doctor at Leeds University.

He was crossing Ring Road Beeston Park - which has a speed limit of 30 mph - when Regan Kemp, 26, allegedly smashed into him whilst travelling at 80 mph, a crown court heard. It was also heard that the car was later abandoned and Mr Kemp fled the scene.
