Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was evacuated on Tuesday morning after a man claimed to have a bomb in his bag. The incident led to the complete evacuation of Terminal 4, impacting both arrivals and departures.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested the individual and initiated the evacuation. The airport communicated via X, stating, "Travel Advisory No. 1: An ongoing security-related investigation is impacting access to pre-security public areas of the arrivals and departures levels of Terminal 4 only."
Law enforcement personnel are currently redirecting passengers to unaffected terminal areas. The airport expressed gratitude for the public's patience and cooperation during this ongoing investigation, which they described as a developing situation.
The Bomb Squad Unit from the Broward Sheriff's Office has taken possession of the bag in question. However, authorities have not released further details regarding the nature of the threat.
As a result of the incident, security wait times across the airport are currently reported to be between 15 to 25 minutes, according to CBS12 News. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
