OMAHA, Neb. —

Being a police officer can be a dangerous job with little room for error. Every day, officers put their lives on the line to keep the community safe. KETV went through simulated training to see what a day in their shoes looks like.

It's training every Omaha police officer goes through, putting decision-making to the test.

"We need to know how they're going to perform here before they get out," says Police Chief Todd Schmaderer.

"You hear about what they go through on a daily basis. You understand from my office how dangerous this job truly is," says Schmaderer.

It's why training is so important.

Lt. Queno Martinez trains recruits at the police academy. He invited me to run through the same simulations used to test officers. I was only given a gun.
