After donating $30 million to Washington state arts organizations and nearly $9 million to downtown Seattle groups, the foundation started by the late Microsoft billionaire Paul Allen is now turning its focus to Seattle Center.
Allen Family Philanthropies, formerly known as the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, announced Wednesday morning that it is giving nearly $7 million to eight arts and cultural organizations on the Seattle Center campus, including the Pacific Northwest Ballet, the Pacific Science Center and KEXP.
The funding is earmarked for projects that are designed to increase exposure to and participation in the arts for people of all ages, especially those ages 10 to 26 — eventually stewarding the next generation of creators, audience members and arts patrons.
