Emporia residents recently received a letter from the City of Emporia regarding potential lead in drinking water—prompting many to ask whether there is an active lead contamination issue. According to the City, the notice is not the result of a lead exceedance or any new water quality concern.

City Communications Manager Christine Torrens said the mailing is part of an annual notice required under new federal regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

“This is an annual notice residents may receive as the City works to meet the new initiative under the EPA,” Torrens said. “This is the second year the City has participated.”
