The port of Prince Rupert, B.C., could be the terminus for a new oil pipeline, if such an agreement is reached between the Alberta and federal governments. B.C. opposes lifting an oil tanker ban for the area.
Liberal MPs said any deal between Alberta and Ottawa that includes a new pipeline and a limited exemption to a tanker ban must have buy-in from British Columbia, but they stopped short of voicing flat-out opposition to such a deal.
The Globe and Mail reported Wednesday that talks are progressing rapidly between Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Prime Minister Mark Carney’s governments for a new energy accord.
It could include a proposal for an oil pipeline running from Alberta to the northwest coast of British Columbia and an exemption to the current ban on oil tankers on the B.
