KALAMAZOO, MI — Out of 10 candidates, Drew Duncan won the most votes for a four-year term on the city commission in the Nov. 4 election.
That means people in Kalamazoo want change, he said.
An Indiana University graduate, the 36-year-old Duncan enters the role with more than a decade of experience in community advocacy.
He currently serves on boards for the People’s Food Co-op and Can-Do Kalamazoo. He also chairs the Candidates and Campaigns committee for the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party.
In college, Duncan experienced homelessness.
“I think that lived experience is important,” he said.
After graduation, still in Indiana, he lost one sister to gun violence and another to leukemia within two years.
