KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — People want to know the timeline for the opening of the Landing Place, a new shelter for families with children, but they’ll have to wait a little longer to find out.
The timeline for the shelter opening is still being finalized, Kalamazoo County Administrator/Controller Kevin Catlin said at the county board of commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
A former Kalamazoo hotel, Country Inn & Suites, 1912 E. Kilgore Service Road, will be transformed into an 80-unit homeless shelter, according to county officials.
The project was initially planned to open by mid-summer 2025. In May, county officials projected a December 2025 opening , while also exploring other options to provide shelter alternatives.
