WASHINGTON — A 15-year-old is facing charges after police say he brought a loaded gun to school on Tuesday.

According to the Prince George's County Police Department, Charles Herbert Flowers High School personnel alerted the PGPD School Resource Officer shortly before 9 a.m. They told the officer that a student had bypassed security personnel, ran up a set of stairs, and left a gun.

The student reportedly ran away afterward and was taken into custody by a PGPD patrol officer who had been canvassing the area.

The teen has only been identified as a 15-year-old student at the school. He is being charged with possession of a firearm on school property.

The school was placed on lockdown while the incident unfolded, which was lifted less than an hour later.

"The lockdown began at 8:45 a.m.
