WALLOON LAKE, MI – More than a dozen people are without a home after a fire at a historic lodge in Northern Michigan.
Fourteen or 15 people are displaced due to the fire that happened Wednesday morning at Elvyn Lea Lodge on M-75 in Walloon Lake, WPBN/WGTU reports . No injuries were reported. The residents were taken to a local church to await the arrival of the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.
Officials with Melrose Township Fire Department told the TV station that a lithium battery charger appears to be the cause of the blaze. The north end of the building went up in flames while the south end has smoke damage.
The lodge was constructed in the late 1950s, the report said. It was previously used as tourism lodging. In recent years, it has served as workforce housing with private
