CHAMBERLAIN, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A California man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after an online scam cost a South Dakota resident thousands, according to Attorney General Marty Jackley.
Chee Yeng Wong, 36, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after entering a guilty plea to Aiding, Abetting, or Advising Grand Theft.
The incident occurred between January and March 2025, when a Chamerlain resident lost almost $472,000.
Wong’s address is listed as Pasadena, CA, but he is from Malaysia. He was ordered to pay restitution of $472,000 and fined $1,000.
The case was prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office and the Brule County State’s Attorney’s Office.
