Winnipeg police have charged a 35-year-old man in connection with more than 20 arsons and property damage incidents across the city over a five-month period, including fires set at the constituency offices of MLAs Nahanni Fontaine and Bernadette Smith.

The Winnipeg Police Service said members of the Major Crimes Unit arrested Jesse Robert Shawn Wheatland on November 18 just after 7 p.m. in the 100 block of Magnus Avenue, following what investigators described as a lengthy and complex investigation.

Police allege that between June 11 and November 18, 2025, a total of 22 incidents took place at commercial and public properties across Winnipeg. The affected locations include constituency offices, restaurants, entertainment venues and administrative buildings:
