ANN ARBOR – Michigan’s matchup at Maryland on Saturday will feature two of the four true freshmen quarterbacks in FBS that opened the year as their team’s starter.

Both Bryce Underwood and Malik Washington were top-100 recruits and the headliner of their program’s 2025 class, but both have also experienced growing pains during their freshman seasons.

Michigan’s Underwood is coming off consecutive two-interception games, while Maryland’s Washington has had a tendency to put the ball in harm’s way. The 6-foot-5, 231-pound Maryland native has seven interceptions in 2025 – tied for third-most among Big Ten quarterbacks – and two lost fumbles. Five of his interceptions have come in the Terrapins’ last four games – all losses where the team has scored 20 points or fewer.
