SPARTANBURG, S.C. —

The White House begins its annual Christmas decorating this week, and among the hundreds of volunteer decorators selected from across the country is Spartanburg local Megan Michalowski.

As a longtime member of the Junior League of Spartanburg, Michalowski has spent five years helping organize the League’s annual Santa’s Shoppe fundraiser. The creativity and community spirit of that work ultimately inspired her to apply to be a White House decorator this year.

For Michalowski, this experience is the fulfillment of a decades-long aspiration. Now, that dream is becoming a reality, and it’s about far more than stringing lights and decking the halls.

"It's an honor to just be there and decorating, you know, America's house!" said Michalowski.
