KENT COUNTY, Mich. — After more than a year of gathering feedback and conducting research via Grand Valley State University, the Kent County Deer Management Coalition put out a years-long plan for handling deer overpopulation in the county.

Managing Director with the Kent County Road Commission Jerry Byrne has been behind the coalition since the very beginning. He explains it started with an idea for all the cities, townships and villages in the county to come together to tackle this problem, rather than separately.

"Right now, we harvest more deer with our vehicles than we do through legal hunting methods, okay? That's the wrong way to harvest deer," he said when explaining the severity of the issue.
