BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Vermont Comedy Club turns 10 this week. I went to their open mic night for some jokes and to find out why they’re opening up a nonprofit to keep local comedy lovers laughing.

“Chucky E. Cheese, where a kid can be a kid. Planned Parenthood... not so much,” joked comedian Kane Thomley during Tuesday night’s open mic.

Vermont Comedy Club started in a vacuum. That’s according to co-owner Natalie Miller, who said before they opened, there were way fewer laughs in Burlington.

“There was not a scene in Vermont when we started doing it. There were maybe like two or three shows a year,” said Miller.

Now, you can see comedy almost any night of the week. On Wednesday nights, there’s an open mic, and the place gets packed.
