KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The United States Air Force has chosen the 134th Air Refueling Wing at McGhee Tyson to fly the new KC-46 Pegasus refueling aircraft. This announcement comes as the 134th was one of seven units considered.

The unit supports U.S. and NATO missions while having a quarter-billion-dollar impact on East Tennessee.

Colonel Ronald L. Selvidge is the Wing Commander. He said the announcement was 20 years in the making.

"The KC-46 Pegasus will actually be the first new aircraft that the wing has ever had," he said. "It's a long-term effort. It's certainly a thrilling day for us and our airmen as we look forward to moving into the new airplane."

He said it's a major accomplishment to be chosen. It also secures more than 1,000 jobs in the area.
