MODESTO, Calif. —

The Modesto Gospel Mission is asking for community support as it faces a turkey shortage ahead of its annual Thanksgiving dinner, where a record turnout is expected.

Herschel Prevatt, a volunteer at the Modesto Gospel Mission, described how the annual event typically goes.

"Multiple people lined up out there on the street. It goes around the corner. Young ones, old ones and I see a lot of joy," Prevatt said.

With more guests anticipated this year than ever before, the mission is in need of hundreds of turkeys.

"This will help a lot of families that really can't afford it," said William Sce from the Modesto Gospel Mission.
