ST PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota’s economic trajectory is facing serious headwinds, according to a new report released by the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday. Once defined by decades of strong innovation, productivity and prosperity, the state’s economy is now lagging behind much of the nation on key measures of growth, according to the Chamber Foundation's 2026 Business Benchmarks report.
"We're really trying to kind of look at both our strengths, but also the challenges that we see that need to be addressed," said Sean O'Neil, the Chamber's Senior Director of Economic Development and Research.
The Chamber identifies GDP per capita, labor force growth and net domestic migration as the most critical indicators of the state’s economic future. Data included in the report shows that
