COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Senate sent to Gov. Mike DeWine a bipartisan bill Wednesday that would require local jails and state prisons to provide women inmates on their periods with an adequate supply of feminine hygiene products at no cost.
House Bill 29 passed the Senate unanimously, 32 to 0. The bill passed the Ohio House on May 28 and now heads to DeWine’s desk for a signature or veto. A spokesman for DeWine didn’t reply to a question about whether the governor has said anything about the bill.
HB 29 also allows women who are menstruating to take a shower once a day.
It had passed the House three times, but the bill had never gotten to the Senate floor until now.
