Plans to reduce speed limits across Perth ’s CBD to 40km/h has been endorsed by the City of Perth council — but not to the extent recommended by city staff.

At the city’s meeting on Tuesday night, council voted 7-1 to not to expand the 40km/h speed reductions city-wide.

City staff recommended that council endorse option one which involves the “widest application of speed limit reductions, including all remaining Access Roads and Local Distributor Roads, as well as several higher order roads”.

Instead, council voted for the “moderate change” option — or “option 2” — which means they will maintain speeds on major roads only.
