A majority of the Montgomery City Council voted against appointing William Boyd to the Montgomery Housing Authority on Tuesday.
Boyd was found guilty of three counts of promoting prostitution and four counts of showing or allowing to be shown female genitals for entertainment purposes in 2002. Boyd was pardoned for the charges in 2007.
Montgomery City Councilman Oronde Mitchell proposed Boyd’s appointment to replace Iesha Brooks on the Montgomery Housing Authority.
Mitchell said he believed in grace and mercy.
“Mr. William Boyd has done what he’s done. It was 2002. He was pardoned in 2007. He’s been on every ballot since 2007 to 2025, so that means the state of Alabama forgives him for any action that he did against this state, like they did for me,” Mitchell said at the meeting.
