Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said more charges of child abuse could be filed against fired teacher Nicole Staples, noting the graphic video of her allegedly beating her son with a belt captures only the most recent act of violence against her family.
Staples, who has been fired from her job teaching at Cottage Hill Christian Academy’s elementary school, was arrested Wednesday and booked into Metro Jail after 5 p.m. on a single charge of willful child abuse. She left custody on a $7,500 bond a little more than one hour later. Willful child abuse is considered a Class C felony.
