The Alabama Public Library Service (APLS) board on Thursday voted not to reinstate state funding for the Fairhope Public Library (FPL), promising instead to address the local library’s $45,000 in annual state funding at its next meeting.
At the same time, APLS voted to strip public library' s children's sections of reading materials depicting transgender people. If approved by the Alabama Legislature, libraries that don’t follow the new policy could face losing state funding.
