SAHUARITA, Ariz. (KVOA) - A fire involving a lithium-ion battery charger prompted an early morning response from the Santa Rita Fire District on Wednesday.
According to SRFD, crews were dispatched to the 3600 block of E. El Toro Road on Nov. 19 after a resident stated she was awakened by a small explosion and smoke alarms. The woman said an unattended battery charge, which was plugged in on the kitchen countertop, was on fire, causing the dining area and kitchen to fill with smoke.
SRFD said the woman tried to put out the fire before carrying the burning device outside and extinguishing it with dirt. Although the home was filled with smoke, none of the five occupants required medical attention.
