CANTON, Ohio — The Stark County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that happened Wednesday night in Plain Township.

According to a release, sheriff's deputies were sent out to the 2800 block of Sharonwood Avenue NW at approximately 8:45 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered an elderly married couple who were dead at the scene.

"Preliminary findings suggest the incident may have been a murder-suicide; however, the investigation is ongoing," the Stark County Sheriff's Office added in its release.

Officials emphasize that there was never a threat to the public, as investigators believe the shooting was an isolated event.
