The Phoebus-Hampton rivalry is prolific enough that it was highlighted nationally this season, for the second time in the past few years, by the “Great American Rivalry Series.” Recognition notwithstanding, Phoebus (7-3) would prefer to forget, or at least avenge, the 43-7 defeat to Hampton (10-1) in October.

Their rematch in the Class 4 Region A semifinals at noon Saturday at Darling Stadium gives the Phantoms the opportunity.

“It’s not many times you get a chance at correcting a mistake,” said Phantoms two-way lineman Troy Solomona. “This week, God has blessed us with that opportunity.

“For this team, the coaching staff, the players and the community, it’s going to be a fun thing to see and a better thing to play in. I know we’re all excited and are going to bring that fire.”
