Maerine “Mimi” Mitchell is stepping down from her position as president and CEO of Volunteer Hampton Roads.

The board of directors announced on Wednesday that Mitchell’s last day would be Jan. 31 before she heads to a new position in Northern Virginia. The Norfolk-based nonprofit organization matches volunteers with service opportunities and promotes regional volunteerism and corporate philanthropy.

Mitchell, who took the helm in February 2024 , wraps up more than 15 years working in nonprofits in Hampton Roads. She previously worked as director of community engagement at Habitat for Humanity Peninsula & Greater Williamsburg.
