CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (WITN) - Elective surgeries are being put on hold due to HVAC system problems at the Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune.

The hospital says it began Wednesday “due to a facilities issue with the HVAC system of our operating rooms and subsequent construction work.”

A spokeswoman says staff is now rescheduling surgeries that were scheduled through December 10th.

The hospital’s trauma center remains open, the hospital says, with two operating rooms available for emergency/trauma use, if needed.

WITN has asked the medical center for more information on what caused the HVAC problems and whether there was any contamination done to the operating room.
