WASHINGTON — Cynthia Erivo is shedding light on her viral reaction to protecting Ariana Grande after a man ambushed the star on the red carpet for "Wicked: For Good" in Singapore.
In an interview with Savannah Guthrie on "TODAY," the Emmy, Grammy and Tony winner said it was her "first instinct" to jump in and make sure Grande, who plays Glinda in the film, was OK.
"I wasn't really thinking," Erivo said, reacting to the moment. "I just wanted to make sure my friend was safe. I'm sure he didn't mean us harm, but you never know with those things, and I wanted to make sure she was OK. That was my first instinct."
