A Maryland home went up in flames Thursday morning, sending thick smoke pouring through the trees as crews from two states rushed to stop the fire from spreading.
Firefighters were first dispatched to the home in the 3900 block of Prospect Road in Whiteford shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 20, after an automatic fire alarm came in, according to the Harford County Fire & EMS Public Information Office.
Moments later, the homeowner called 911 again — this time reporting visible fire inside the house.
By the time crews arrived, flames had already pushed through the upper level.
Photos from the scene show fire rolling out of the roofline as smoke billowed across the property. Firefighters climbed ladders, pulled shingles, and cut into the structure to reach the fire that was working its way through the home.
Units from Whiteford, Darlington, Bel Air, Norrisville, Level, Aberdeen, and Jarrettsville responded, along with York County, PA companies.
Crews from Cecil County’s Water Witch and Rising Sun also assisted, along with Harford County EMS, York County EMS, Harford County Disaster Assistance, Delmarva Power, and the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Deputy State Fire Marshals and K9 Blondie were on scene investigating, the Maryland OSFM said.
“A team of Deputy State Fire Marshals and K9 Blondie is on the scene and investigating a house fire in the 3900 block of Prospect Road in Harford County. The occupant and her dog safely escaped,” the agency wrote.
OSFM later added that by 11:50 a.m., “the fire has been brought under control, and overhaul operations have begun, allowing our investigators to enter the home to begin their investigation.”
The Harford County Fire & EMS PIO confirmed the fire was officially placed under control before 11 a.m. and said there were no injuries to residents or first responders.
The PIO said the cause remains under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
The home sustained significant damage, and Harford County Disaster Assistance is working with the residents.
