Officials are mulling how large to make the no-camping zone around a large homeless shelter set to open next year near Vancouver Mall.
The Vancouver City Council on Monday weighed three options ranging from 1,000 feet to 2,000 feet for a buffer around the 120-bed shelter.
“We’re trying to have this balance of between the needs and rights and the safety of people who are living outside. But also not negatively impacting the stabilizing help that we are trying to put in place to help them when they go in (to shelter),” said Jamie Spinelli, the city’s homeless response manager.
