BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The Upshur County Board of Education voted during a special meeting Thursday evening to close Rock Cave Elementary School at the end of the current school year.
The school will merge with French Creek Elementary School, with the consolidation becoming effective at the end of the 2025-2026 academic year.
The board also approved an amendment to the 2020-2030 Upshur County Schools Comprehensive Education Facilities Plan to include the closure of Rock Cave Elementary and its merger into French Creek.
These consolidation efforts were first considered at the beginning of the year, with the board beginning to take formal action in August.
Enrollment numbers were a major contributing factor in the decision, Superintendent Christy Miller said in August.
