It took 12 minutes from the crash at a busy London intersection until the final police officer was on the scene.

Bahaa Ali’s defence lawyer, Medlina Macchia, asked a judge Thursday to believe that was enough time for her client to arrive after the crash and claim he was driving his black Mercedes in order to protect his younger brother and the value of his luxury car.

But assistant Crown attorney Cara Douglas argued the story “absolutely defies credulity” and urged Superior Court Justice Barbara MacFarlane to find Ali guilty of dangerous driving in the collision that killed a London woman five years ago.

MacFarlane is expected to return with a decision early February after hearing the closing arguments at the trial, which featured a defence the Crown labelled “the driver switcheroo.”
