BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - The Brazos County 911 District is testing an artificial intelligence assistant to handle non-emergency calls.

The goal of the assistant is to reduce the workload on dispatchers who receive nearly 200,000 calls each year. The AI system will serve as the primary point of contact for non-emergency calls, while 911 emergency calls will continue going directly to dispatchers at the center.

Executive Director, Patrick Corley explained how the assistant should help delegate nonemergency calls and respond efficiently to calls.

“The goal here is to have the AI assistant help us with some of those nonemergency calls so our dispatchers can focus on the more important 911 calls from the public,” Corley said.
