CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- The restoration of SNAP benefits in Illinois has brought relief to families who rely on this assistance. After recent delays, the Illinois Department of Human Sevices says benefits are now fully restored.
The return of benefits has brought people back to the stores, with employees at the Neighborhood Co-op noting busier aisles. Shoppers say they feel relieved to hear that those who faced uncertainty during the delay.
"When people are on a normal schedule and they're eating food and they're living normally and all of a sudden SNAP benefits get taken away, I mean, it can really just disrupt people's lives," Elliott Gianaris said. "And I think it goes beyond just food. It impacts our nation's wellbeing."
