COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - As kids head into Thanksgiving break, experts say abuse doesn’t stop, but the chance to catch it becomes much harder.

Safe Passage in Colorado Springs said when school is out, kids can lose the adults they trust the most, and that can make it tougher for them to ask for help.

According to Safe Passage, most kids don’t come forward about abuse, especially if it is someone whom the family knows. They are asking the community to stay alert while kids are home for the holidays.

Safe Passage said behavior changes are often the first sign that something is not right. Maybe a child is more withdrawn, more anxious or suddenly is afraid of going to a certain house for the holidays.
