Bowie State University, Maryland’s oldest historically Black college and university, received an unrestricted $50 million donation — the largest single donation in the institution’s history.
“She recognizes the value that we bring to our students, but also we’re anchored institutions in our communities,” Bowie State President Dr. Aminta H. Breaux said.

Billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott donated the money last week. The gift came after Scott donated millions to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Morgan State University, two other Maryland HBCUs.
“I thought it was a blessing, and I would hope that the school would do something good with it,” said Arianna Yearwood, a freshman at Bowie State.
