LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Two years after sustaining a gunshot wound in the line of duty, Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) Officer Brandon Haley has returned to patrol, a testament to his resilience and the unwavering support of his colleagues and community.

Haley, shot in September 2023 in the Chickasaw neighborhood, shared his journey of recovery and the critical role played by his fellow officers and the Louisville Metro Police Foundation.

The incident occurred when Officer Haley was following a vehicle that abruptly stopped, its occupants fleeing on foot. As Haley exited his cruiser, he was shot in the chest.

The immediate aid provided by his fellow officers proved to be life-saving, as was their continued support through his 18-month recovery.
