SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A New Hampshire man has been indicted for his involvement in a fraud scheme that allegedly stole more than $700,000 in California unemployment insurance benefits.
The United States Department of Justice says that 40-year-old Anthony Mark Silva of Manchester, New Hampshire, had been charged with nine counts of bank fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft.
Between July 2020 and June 2021, Silva carried out a plan to defraud the California Employment Development Department (EDD), according to court documents. Authorities say that Silva filed fraudulent unemployment insurance claims seeking benefits under the CARES Act.
