FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KKTV) - Staff and students with Fort Carson District 8 are helping to make sure some local families have everything they need for a Thanksgiving meal this year.

District 8 schools collected items for Thanksgiving baskets throughout the month to help families in need. The city said this was a combined effort that included school district staff, families of students and Fountain police officers who serve as SROs alongside some of their police explorer program members.

The city said the community divided up elements for the baskets, such as corn bread and potatoes, and school staff were challenged to supply 500 turkeys for the baskets. The district said they exceeded that goal with 550 turkeys.
