A state grand jury declined to file criminal charges against police officers in Pemberton Township after they fatally shot a 57-year-old man in his backyard, officials from the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office announced Thursday.

The incident was investigated by the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability under a 2019 directive that investigates all fatal encounters with active law enforcement.

Officials released emergency calls and body-worn camera recordings of the encounter in August under the terms of the 2019 directive.

The investigation included recordings of emergency calls, radio transmission, body-worn camera recordings, ballistics reports, medical records, autopsy results and interviews with other officers.
