PAPILLION, Neb. (WOWT) - The basketball season has tipped off at all levels of the sport and unfortunately yelling at the ref is all too common. But last year a parent of a player in a youth game in Papillion went beyond angry words.
A referee calls it as he sees it, but fleeing a rush of adults at an eighth-grade boys game Marcus Marinkovich couldn’t have seen a sucker punch coming from one angry fan.
“Just couldn’t believe something like that would happen out of nowhere. That he would hit me where I couldn’t see what was happening,” referee Marcus Marinkovich told First Alert 6 in an exclusive interview.
“I was showing signs of concussion and that’s what they diagnosed me with.”
The punch happened a year ago, and after a guilty plea for a serious misdemeanor assault on the referee,
