A five-star spa hotel with Michelin star dining, just a stone’s throw away from Windermere , has been named the ‘best in the North’ in a national hotel awards. Gilpin Hotel & Lake House received the accolade in the Good Hotel Guide Cesar Awards.

The annual awards “recognise consistent excellence” are given by the independent Good Hotel Guide to the top hotels, B&Bs and inns in Great Britain and Ireland. They’re named after the hotelier César Ritz and are even dubbed the ‘Oscars of hotel keeping’ due to their prestige.

Winners are selected based on reader reports and editorial review. Other winners included Plas Dinas Country House in Caernarfon, Gwynedd, and House of Geroge W. Davies in Worcestershire.
