Train passengers in the city are being warned that all lines in the Potteries are currently blocked. It comes due to a 'fault with the signalling system' in Stoke-on-Trent.

National Rail has said that as a result 'all lines are blocked'. Subsequently scores of trains are being cancelled, delayed or diverted. The issue is expected to rumble on until 10.30am this morning (November 21).

The following routes are affected:

Avanti West Coast between Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston;

CrossCountry between Manchester Piccadilly and Bournemouth / Bristol Temple Meads / Paignton;

East Midlands Railway between Crewe and Newark Castle;

London Northwestern Railway between Crewe and Stafford;

Northern between Manchester Piccadilly and Stoke-on-Trent.
