A 22-year-old man is facing a federal charge after allegedly admitting he owned a “ghost gun” that was found in a bag at Kalihi Valley Homes.

Elijah Taumua, 22, was ordered held without bail Thursday after Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Kenneth J. Mansfield determined there were no conditions that could be imposed on Taumua’s release that would “reasonably assure the safety of the community,” according to federal court documents.

On Aug. 5, Honolulu Police Department officers responding to a call for service found a blue, MCM-brand bag abandoned in the Kalihi Valley Homes complex near Building 32 on the 2300 block of Kalaunu Street. When police opened the bag to “determine ownership” and for “inventory purposes,” they found a black and silver, semi-automatic 9mm pistol.
