Sommaroy, a tiny fishing island north of the Arctic Circle, has once again captured global attention for its unusual relationship with time, or rather, its lack of one. Home to just under 300 residents, the Norwegian island is known for embracing a lifestyle that defies the clock, especially during the region’s dramatic seasonal extremes.
From May 20 to July 18, Sommaroy is bathed in uninterrupted daylight as the Midnight Sun hovers above the horizon for 69 consecutive days. During this period, the island’s daily rhythm becomes strikingly unconventional.
