GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - It’s been about a month since Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica, devastating the island with a death toll of more than 40 people.

Willi Be Wright is a Jamaican native who currently lives in Hawthorne and works in Gainesville. Her daughter, however, still lives in Jamaica, working as a special needs teacher, and her home was completely obliterated by the storm.
“People can’t get water of food, it’s a beautiful country that I dreamed of going back to and now it’s like so damaged I’m wondering if it will ever come back to normal because we have never experienced any hurricane like that before” Willi Be Wright, Jamaican native, said.
